Position:          Professional Services Senior Consultant            

FLSA:             Exempt

Reports to:     Professional Services Manager

Location:        USA, Canada, UK

 

Position Summary:

MySQL professional services consultants delivers consulting services to our customers. The professional services consultant will work with other professional services team members, customers, partners and sub-contractors, sales team and engineering group to ensure successful delivery to our clients.

 

Responsibilities:

Includes, but not limited to:

*	Responsibility for database design, administration, tuning and optimization, migration from other database vendors to MySQL, development and integration in support of customer engagements. This includes accountability for functional completeness and delivery against performance, supportability, and testability goals.
*	Working with other professional services and sales team members in pre-sale engagements to produce mockups and proof of concepts.
*	Working closely with clients and MySQL project managers and team to clearly define scope of work and provide accurate schedule estimates.
*	Acting as technical guide and mentor to other team members.
*	Creating and maintaining technical documentation, best practices and methodology.
*	Translating customer specifications into quality deliverables.
*	Following and enhancing coding standards and development guidelines.
*	Participating in code and design reviews.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

*	5+ year’s database development experience working with with schema design, database programming, stored procedures and database performance tuning, especially for complex queries.
*	Deep understanding of MySQL, Oracle and/or MS SQL Server 
*	Experience with Oracle 8i/9i 
*	Experience in writing stored procedures, triggers and functions in multiple development environments (Linux , Windows, Solaris, UNIX)
*	Language skills: C/C++, Java, PHP, Perl, Python 
*	Experience with connectors: JDBC and ODBC
*	Strong problem solving skills with an eye for the big-picture and capable of delving into details when required. Must be creative; be able to develop new simple approaches to complex design problems.
*	Ability to handle multiple concurrent activities and have a flexible positive attitude.
*	Must be an experienced, motivated, self-starter who is willing to work in an entrepreneurial environment.
*	Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*	Significant travel could be required.

 

Desirable Qualifications: 

*	Expertise with in-memory databases and other high-performance alternatives.
*	Experience with other DBMS including Oracle RAC, Sybase, Informix, PostgreSQL, Pervasive, Times Ten and Caché is a plus.
*	Experience with application and web servers such as WebLogic, WebSphere, JBoss, Apache Tomcat.

*	Working knowledge of J2EE/LAMP stacks (EJB, JSP, ASP, Servlets, JNDI, XML/XSL) to implement a distributed n-tier object system.
*	Object-oriented analysis & design skills. 

*	Experience with setting up various replication schemes.
*	Experience with data modeling.
*	Project management skills.
*	Development experience under Windows, Linux, Solaris, UNIX.

 

Education:
BS or MS in computer science or equivalent experience.
