The New York Post Online Edition seeks a mid-level programmer to join 
our day staff in the Midtown New York City offices. We are looking for a 
responsible, self-directed individual with an enthusiasm for open source 
software technologies and demonstrated experience with them in an online 
environment.

Job specifications:

* This is a permanent, full-time, onsite position. Please no freelance 
inquires and no placement services!
* This position requires candidate to have excellent writing and 
communication skills.
* Candidate must be able to work on several projects at a time
* This position reports to the Director of the Online Edition.

Skill set includes:

* Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Javascript and web design technologies
* Minimum 2-3 years demonstrated experience with PHP
* Beginning to moderate experience with Perl in both CGI and standalone 
environments
* Demonstrated problem solving and solution building skills
* Demonstrated experience with open source databases and database 
programming (experience with database planning and architecture a plus, 
experience with PostgreSQL also a plus)
* Demonstrated administrative experience with Linux or BSD operating systems
* Familiarity with Apache installation, configuration and maintenance is 
preferred
* Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing 
requirements in a continuously evolving environment
* Ability to deliver high standards while working within tight deadlines 
in a pressurized environment
* Familiarity with working in a Media or fast paced environment

Responsibilities:
 
* Will be expected to work with online team to maintain existing online 
systems
* Must manage and develop various online projects, including the 
creation and automation of complex statistical reporting systems, 
dynamic sections of the website, e-commerce systems, and database 
replication
* Assist Manager in maintenance and development of production database 
and web servers
* Maintain and develop website's staging environment
* Perform website Q/A and apply fixes as needed
