Brian,

I agree about CraigsList -- lots of fools posting on there trying to 
get a programmer for 12 bucks an hour!!  Although I personally have had 
a lot of luck on there, and made some great long term contacts.  Sure 
no way to get rich on there, rates are not great.

With regard to the postings here by recruiters, most of the job 
descriptions are silly and don't make you want to send a resume.  They 
leave you thinking, "yuck, don't wanna work here, next!!" But the sad 
fact is that 99% of these "recruiters" don't understand a word of what 
they are cutting and pasting into these posts...it's just a bunch of 
words to them and they will get resumes and check to see if the words 
they seek are on there and if so, will forward the resume on to another 
know nothing who will possibly forward it to their client -- if the job 
actually exists.

I'd rather deal with a "mom&pop shop" where, even if rates are a bit 
lower, you can market your solution right to the people with the 
checkbook...which you do find on Craig's.
