OVERVIEW

The Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT is founded on two

This position is an opportunity to work within IT/Systems,  an organization
that is committed to creating the best collaboration experience to
accelerate ground-breaking science that transforms medicine. There is
currently 1 immediate opening at this time.  Compensation is commensurate
with experience.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

Works with Software Engineering team to design, implement, and maintain
custom software applications that primarily support Administrative projects.
Reports to Principal Software Engineer.

Responsibilities include gathering requirements from users, and performing
detailed design and implementation of custom workflow applications based on
the CakePHP framework.

In addition, the ideal candidate will possess excellent time management
skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at once. Quality and
detail focus is a must.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES

Join and work closely with software engineering team
Responsible for the detailed design of modules and multiple object oriented
classes
Independently designs and implements solutions to complex problems with
minimal supervision
Effectively communicates the technical approach on assigned task(s) and the
result(s) with peers and supervisor
Identifies priorities and evaluates different approaches to completing
assigned tasks
Works with stakeholders to understand software requirements and ensure
applications are developed to specification
Communicates code risk assessments to supervisor and other team members
Maintains, upgrades, fixes and reviews product source code
Uses debugger in daily software development


QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related experience
At least three years of LAMP-based software development
Experience with object-oriented programming with PHP, and UI design with
HTML, CSS, and Javascript
Experience coding for and testing user interfaces in multiple web browsers
Experience working with an MVC framework, preferably CakePHP
Knowledge of project management systems such as Redmine, Lighthouse, Trac,
or JIRA
Experience with version control, particularly Git
Working knowledge of database fundamentals and SQL - MySQL preferred
Experience with APIs – Google, OAuth, REST/JSON web services.
