It was a smooth lo-calorie tidbit. 

For me, though, the article most fully amplifies that, at last, 
after so much time Microsoft has finally engaged enough gears and 
can even attempt such a slim and daring head to head.

It does not change that ASP.NET, far from being a radical and innovative
rewrite 
is an infusion of tasty XML, Java and C strategies monumentally hoisted
on top of the 
hardcore Windows Server environment and the "out from leftfield"
introduction of 
more kludge like the Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL) code and 
common language runtime (CLR) will be contributing to overall
performance hits 
on IIS web server environments everywhere.

Everyone please take a moment and commiserate with them now, those 
glassy-eyed programmers, who are in some way remain sisters and
brothers, 
who have to hoist that heavy, heavy .NET chain and keep on keepin on. 
Frankly, I think .NET experience will make all of them stronger 
opensource programmers when they are ready.
