Just because it's so fun to hear myself talk (and I'm on cold meds):
I would wager "login" came about because "log-in" has that evil dash in it.
While that's not a problem these days, perhaps there was something evil (or
lazy, or (evil && lazy)) about the systems or sysadmins (this goes to you,
"back in the day" crew) that required the authentication to have no
non-alpha chars in it.

Discuss!

Or don't. Chalk it up to Tylenol Cold.

While technically not on topic, I recall an amusing graphic used to commit a
form on the M$ website, it was titled simply:

"SUBMIT"

Now that's pretty effin' funny.

But go with the client's spec, of course. After all, it doesn't matter until
they get enough hate-mail about it, right?
