Actually, screw-top wine bottles are cheaper, more effective, more
useful, and better for the environment than ones using cork. The only
reason the wine industry hasn't adopted them is legacy snobbery and
public perception.

There's been a transition to plastic "corks" in recent years. They're
better than actual cork, and are seen as a transition mechanism to
screw tops. It's still a tough sell in expensive wines.
