Hmm.. interesting, considering that was what I was taught to use as the 
"or" comparator in Shell Script (see 
http://www.freeos.com/guides/lsst/ch03sec02.html* )

*I know you also can use "||" (which I've always understand as "or") but 
only between blocked expressions and not within one.
