I grew up in Ridgefield, NJ, not 3 miles from Jersey CIty - map quest  it.  
 
THE minium you will pay for rent for a 3 bedroom in Jersey City is  $2,000.
 
Commute will cost - $2 each way on path or $8 each way on ferry
Subway will cost - $1 each way....
 
$6 a day min just to commute and how are you going to get from the  apartment 
to the path or ferry?  NO WHERE TO PARK ANYWHERE UNLESS YOU PAY  $7-$10 a day.
