actually it shows how the brain works in a linear way.

You look at the topic thread in gmail, and there is no link to edit
the subject, however it you reply to the email (which means that you
think you at this point you have passed your chance to edit the
subject) then you see an edit subject link.  It's like a chicken and
egg thing or maybe in programmers terms "a CALLBACK?".
