At first I thought you were confusing swf and flv.

But then:

/usr/local/bin/ffmpeg -formats | grep swf
 DE swf             Flash format
 DEA    adpcm_swf

So it appears to be able to decode and encode in swf format. I have no
idea what this means in practice... can ffmpeg actually create a Flash
animation? But it would seem to mean that you could get a framegrab
from a swf in much the same way that you can from a flv.

Crazy. Wish I had time to try it.
