OS X Finder will mount WebDAV and SMB/CIFS (Windows) shares. maybe some others.

MacFUSE is indeed the tool to use if you want to mount filesystems via
ssh, it's pretty handy but not 100% stable. Then again, nothing in
Finder is 100% stable...
