Senior Systems Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Help build and manage our IT infrastructure both in-office and at our 
data center. For TCP/IP networking, Linux servers, VOIP phone systems, 
PC Windows desktops, MS SBS 2003, server virtualization, LDAP and VPN, 
we need an experienced systems administrator who will be responsible for 
uptime, systems migrations, patches, upgrades and platform integration. 
You will be working closely with the Chief Architect of IT and the CTO 
to make recommendations and implement solutions to support the web 
development team. You will also oversee desktop support staff. As the IT 
department grows, you will work with the CTO to hire and expand 
infrastructure staffing. Your role is essential to our ongoing efforts 
to build a community of freelancers in NYC and beyond.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

    *  Maintain and create infrastructure documentation including
      network diagrams and hardware inventories
    * Provision and administer a cluster of 15 Linux servers including
      security patching and upgrades, user management, redundancy, load
      balancing and server performance and monitoring
    * Administer all networking infrastructure and hardware including
      firewalls, switches, hubs, cabling, load balancers, monitoring
    * Manage, maintain and implement disaster backup and recovery
      processes utilizing SAN/NAS storage, tape and offsite backup
    * Manage network and infrastructure security (VPN / user access)
    * Maintain the office network of 25 PCs and SBS 2003 server,
      overseeing the work of a desktop support staff member
    * Maintain the office VOIP systems
    * Troubleshoot network and server problems, including bandwidth,
      connectivity and systems load
    * Other duties as needed

REQUIREMENTS

    * Must be detail-oriented and take pride in systems uptime
    * Must be self-motivated to identify and fix areas needing
      improvement as well as fix networking and infrastructure problems
      as they happen
    * 5 - 7 years experience managing Linux and networking environments
    * 3 years experience managing networking / support staff
    * Thorough knowledge of the following technologies:
          o TCP/IP stack and Cisco networking gear
          o Service management including IMAP, POP, SMTP, HTTP, DNS,
            LDAP, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SSH, NFS, VOIP, VPN, NAS/SAN
          o LAMP administration and performance tweaking
          o Debian Linux (Fedora a plus)
          o Microsoft Small Business Server and Windows PC deployment
