Senior Software Engineer

 

MANDATE:

Design, implement, and deliver reusable, scalable, and valuable software
that suits Interactive One's business goals and needs. Collaborate with
other disciplines in determining suitable and viable solutions to
opportunities. Senior Software Engineers are responsible for
implementing server-side software components for Interactive One's
various product offerings targeting African-Americans.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

*	Develop and maintain the software powering Interactive One's
properties with a focus on the logic and data tiers
*	Create high-performance, reusable, and well-tested software
adhering to department standards
*	Measure and optimize the performance of software solutions
*	Utilize test-driven development and other testing approaches to
ensure coverage and confidence

*	Contribute by developing reusable standards and libraries with
other software engineers in order to drive technical innovation
*	Participate in departmental code-reviews and discussions
*	Maintain a current understanding of relevant technologies as
they arise and leverage them in providing innovative solutions
*	Work closely with members of the engineering group to create
reusable, scalable, and valuable software
*	Work closely with members of all disciplines to analyze
requirements and design solutions
*	Maintain a transparent and informative workspace
*	Provide estimates and progress updates on ongoing work
*	 

Critical Competencies for Success:

*        Understanding of object-oriented programming and software
design patterns and how to apply them on the web

*        Understanding of how to write software with re-usability and
maintainability in mind

*        Understanding of web scalability/performance concerns and
optimization

*        Broad understanding of different tools/technologies and how to
apply them

*        Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

*        Comfortable working in an Agile environment

*        Ability to collaborate in a team environment or work
independently

*        Ability to follow direction and remain open to the ideas of
others

*        Familiarity with Social Networking concepts 

 

EXPERIENCE: 

*        4+ years of professional experience as a software engineer for
high-traffic, business-to-consumer websites or distributed applications

*        Experience with server-side web technologies such as PHP,
Python, or JSP

*        Experience creating enhanced user-interfaces using JavaScript
and AJAX

*        Experience developing database-driven applications using a
mainstream DBMS such as Oracle or MySQL, or a strong foundation in
database theory

*        Experience with object-oriented programming and software design
patterns

*        Experience working in a Linux environment

*        Experience with web services/service-oriented architecture

*        Experience integrating with 3rd party solutions and services

*        Familiarity with mobile development a plus

*        Familiarity with an Open Source CMS such as WordPress a plus

*        Familiarity with templating or MVC web-application frameworks
such as Django or Symfony a plus

*        Familiarity with SEO best practices a plus

*        Familiarity with NoSQL or schema-less database systems a plus

 

EDUCATION: B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science,  or related field.
Strong candidates with significant work experience but no formal
education will also be considered.

function)

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

*        Actively participate in all skill building workshops as
necessary

*        Continually stay updated on relevant industry information
