I think it all comes down to this:

Why would a developer's job require significant night and weekend effort?
This can mean one of two things:

1. We're under a deadline that we can't meet. We don't really want to
hire more people so we're looking for some contract workers but we
don't have the money so we're looking for some bright but clueless
newbies. Once the project is done we won't need you anymore.

2. There are issues that need to be dealt with 24 hours a day. Our
current two developers are tired of being on call 24/7 so we're
looking for someone cheap that can help them out till we get this
fixed.

I've seen both scenarios.
In any case, this this sounds like a very unhealthy scenario.
