I solved the issue described in my earlier post by downgrading to the 
latest 5.0 release, 5.0.5.     Still not sure exactly where the problem 
was, but I think the solution for others that want to use PHP 5.1.x with 
DB2 is to use PDO and the new ibm_db2 driver instead of PEAR and ODBC.
