Willie, for what it's worth I've been using FPDF, http://www.fpdf.org 
since I began with PHP and have never had any complaints.  Its function 
list does not appear to be quite as extensive as fdf, but it is 
rock-solid and reliable and well-documented, so in productivity terms I 
love it.
