Couldn't you could write a shell script that runs the various commands 
needed (rsync, scp, etc).  Put that shell script on the desktop (or 
wherever) that the user can then click on.  Voila!  Point and click 
uploading!  Plus your daughter will get to know the wonders of shell 
scripting.
